I had conflicting reports from my sources. Some said mango. Others said definitely not mango but declined to make their own guess.
A while ago, I solved the mystery by stepping on a fallen fruit and ripping off its green exterior. It turns out that inside those green blobs is a walnut.
As they read this, my Dad the park ranger, my sister the tree ecologist and my brother the forester will disappointingly sigh "Oh, Janet" for not knowing a nature nugget that would have been so obvious to them. And I should have known. There was a big walnut along my Grandma's laneway at the farm that I climbed every so often.
My family may be disappointed, but me even more so. Even lemons would have been better than boring old walnuts.
